Since FUE involves removing natural groupings of just 1-4 hairs at a time, the NeoGraft® device speeds up the process and is more precise than manual removal. In fact, NeoGraft® has made it possible to more than double the number of units that can be extracted and transplanted in each session. Before NeoGraft®, the units had to be removed manually with a scalpel. As a result, only about 700 units could be extracted in a session. With NeoGraft®, more than 2,500 units can be harvested in a single session.
NeoGraft® also assists in the implantation of the units to their new locations, which are carefully chosen by your physician based on the direction of hair growth. The artistic design elements of hair restoration are, of course, still dependent upon the skill and eye of your surgeon, but the NeoGraft® has greatly improved the precision, efficiency, and speed of the process.
How Does NeoGraft® Work?
NeoGraft® uses pneumatic pressure to slide the hair follicles from the scalp in a smooth motion without pulling or twisting. This prevents damage to the graft tissue and allows the units to be transplanted immediately.
NeoGraft® is minimally invasive and doesn’t require the use of a scalpel, sutures, or staples. Therefore, healing takes place faster, and the NeoGraft® leaves no linear scar like the hair restoration methods of the past.
Additionally, with NeoGraft®, the procedure is virtually painless during the procedure. The scalp is numbed while the patient remains awake. After the procedure, most patients take oral pain medications (narcotic) for the night after surgery and then quickly move to other non-sedating medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, etc. Don’t worry – you are given enough pain medication for about a week, but most people do not need that much.
How Has NeoGraft® Improved Hair Restoration Recovery?
With NeoGraft®, the recovery period after FUE is shorter with little downtime required, and there are fewer restrictions on post-operative activities. If there is soreness after FUE, it is usually minor and can be easily managed with pain medication.
All of this makes for a better experience for the patient – both during and after hair restoration. The results are natural-looking and allow for hair to be worn in short styles.
Although there is usually some swelling after the surgery, most people are able to return to a full workload within a day or two of the procedure. You may start fully exercising in 7-10 days after the surgery.
Does NeoGraft® Work for Most Patients?
NeoGraft® is effective on both men and women and can be used on most any areas of the head, including for hairline restoration and eyebrow restoration.
